LEADERSHIP & SERVICE

As part of New Jersey City University’s Ed.D in Educational Technology Leadership, students are required to exemplify “service to an academic community” and “responsible citizenship in a culturally complex world” through their professional work, academic work, publications, presentations, and volunteer opportunities.

Being a health educator for a local county health department since March 2022, I have been given space to showcase leadership skills in a service-oriented position through the design and delivery of health education presentations, workshops, and health education tables on cancer, diabetes, heart health, nutrition, mental health, and other topics centered around the prevention of chronic disease. Audiences for these health education vehicles range from the county’s older adult population at senior centers and public housing to kids at daycares, afterschool programs, and middle schools to families who attend our health fairs and health education tables at family success centers and libraries. In 2024 and 2025, 118 health education activities were conducted, while 87 events have happened in 2025 so far. This also includes participating in programs like Fresh Start, a bimonthly program facilitated by the county’s Department of Human Services where unhoused people can shower and do laundry via a mobile unit, and the New Americans Resource Pop Up in Elizabeth sponsored by Make the Road New Jersey that provides donations and resources to the county’s immigrant and refugee population.

Most proudly, I have planned and coordinated eight health fairs since serving as a health educator, including creating educational materials and promotional content:
